THE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

I’d like to welcome our members and guests to the Fall Scientific Meeting of the NGS.

Our organization will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary next year and the Spring 2017 meeting is shaping up to be one of our best programs.

Our 50th Anniversary Honoree will be Dr. Dennis Tarnow. Dr. Tarnow, has been a luminary in the areas of Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and Implant dentistry. He has been a leader in the application of a multi-disciplinary approach to restorative patient care.

The NGS has increasingly fostered the inter-dependent relationship of dental specialties and generalists, in delivering the highest standard of care to our patients. Our organization has evolved over the decades to introduce our membership to state-of-the-art dental therapies, materials, and methods in case management.

The foundation of our society was first based in the mastery of occlusion through gnathologic principles.  Over the years, it has been an evolutionary realization, that what is below the occlusal table, is as important as the occlusal table itself.

Perhaps best said by one of our founders, Frank V. Celenza, it is the precision of the position, not the position itself that yields success in the management of occlusion. Likewise, it is the precise coordination of inter-disciplinary care, which yields success in the treatment outcomes for our patients.

Next year also marks a milestone for our society in its continued relationship with dental technologists. Your 2017-2018 incoming president, Leonard Marotta CDT, MDT, PhD, will be the first dental technical fellow of the NGS to hold this position of leadership.

Len will bring a new viewpoint to our society, which will serve to reinforce the unique relationship between restorative dentistry and the dental laboratory arts and science.

We are actively encouraging the expansion of our organizations base to include all the recognized dental specialties, as well as laboratory technologists, to actively participate as contributing members of the NGS. Please invite your supporting specialists in periodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, and endodontics to join with us in broadening the growth of our professional skills and perspectives.

Thank you for sharing in our rich history and embracing our bright future.
